Effectiveness:  

Though Systran didn’t score as well in the Effectiveness category as the top two products in this review, Babylon and @promt , the translations were still accurate enough that the user could get the gist of the content. There were only a few errors, but they could lead to more misunderstanding than the translations of the top two products. You can see how Systran performed in our tests by looking at the articles Test Format, Test 1, Test 2 and Test 3.

Features:  

One of Systran’s standout aspects is the way the software seamlessly integrates with Word and web browsers. The Systran toolbar make it easy to translate selected text from English to 12 different languages. Or, you can simply right click on selected text and Systran gives you four options; Translate, Translate and Replace, Translate and Insert, and Lookup. This makes it very easy to translate text while in Word.

The dictionaries and ability to auto-identify the source language in Systran are very useful, but we were disappointed that Systran didn’t have an integrated spell check or text-to-speech options.

Ease of Use:  

We were especially impressed with Systran’s user–friendliness. This is a program that anyone can use without a lot of instruction. Regardless of which application you’re using, the Systran toolbar has the same interface, making it easy to translate text no matter what format the text is in.

Available Languages:  

tran provides translation packages for multiple languages, including French, German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese and Russian. However, you buy Systran in language pairs rather than with a wide selection of languages like some other products do. This makes Systran less cost-effective, but it’s still a great choice if you know you’ll only need to translate from one specific language.

Supported Formats/Files:  

Systran does an excellent job of integrating to and translating from other programs. Systran can translate text from almost any program you’ll use, like Word, Excel, Powerpoint and web browsers. Systran can also translate PDF and RTF files as well as emails and instant messages.

Help/Support:  

Systran comes with a user manual and the toolbar has a button to access a categorized help database. If you need further assistance you can contact customer support by phone or email.

Systran has a simple interface, effective translation engine and great compatibility that make it a great choice in translation software.
